Long Goodbyes is out!
My latest novella, Long Goodbyes is now available.
I attempted a video update, with unintentionally comedic results which I’ve left up for you to giggle at. Ah well, must get to grips with the old video software sometime …
The feedback for Long Goodbyes so far has been overwhelmingly positive and I have that smug, self-satisfied feeling you get when you know that something has actually worked out for a change. Only kidding; I never feel this, just a sense of hope, trust and trepidation that readers will enjoy it and that it was a good idea to depart from my usual 21st century crime setting – by a hundred years or so. Well, after all it is 2016, a century since the Somme, almost, and I feel a tremendous sense of empathy with this period, perhaps because my grandfather was himself posted to the Western Front – and lived to tell the tale. Or rather, lived never to speak of it according to my father. How could you possibly describe what it had been like? He experienced what no man should ever have had to endure. I’m currently reading about the war in the air, 1914-18 and suspect that my next novel will – at least in part – reach out once again to the Western Front.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
