Sales Sales Sales
Well, Autumn’s well and truly here; the local woods are a painter’s palette of fabulous colours and there’s even a thick ‘pea-souper’ mist this evening. What’s more, it’s just over a year since ‘The Trespass’ sold almost 6000 copies in one month (October 2011).
So, what’s been happening since then?

Firstly, I’m glad to say that readers are still buying, reading and enjoying ‘The Trespass’ (and for 0.89p, why not?) along with my other adult publications, ‘Black December’ (Crime) and ‘The Serpent and the Slave’ (Historical). I totted up total sales for all three this morning, from October 2011 – October 2012, so here you go:

And that’s not including printed sales, or European sales. Just UK + Amazon.com.
‘The Trespass’ reached #14 in the Amazon UK charts.
Does Indie publishing pay off? There’s your answer!
There have been some great Indie successes in the UK over the last year or so, the most notable probably being Rachel Abbot’s ‘Only The Innocent’, which reached #1 in the Amazon UK charts. Rachel’s success and the success of ‘The Trespass’ is a clear message to the world of traditional publishing: Indies are here to stay, and are successfully competing with traditionally published books.
Rachel’s achievement is in no small part due to her excellent marketing skills. If you haven’t done so already, check out her blog and website; there are many useful tips and pointers for the new – and the more experienced – Indie author.
Rachel has also signed with an agent along the way and I understand that she will be publishing ‘Only The Innocent’ in the USA in audio and paperback format in the near future.
Which leads me to another question: Do Indies need an agent?
I’d love to hear your views on this question. I have to ask myself, ‘Would I turn a good agent away if they offered to represent me?’
